The Zug Commodity Association (ZCA) is pleased to invite you to the upcoming evening event with focus on “Dispute Resolution in Commodity Contracts”. The presentation is delivered by experienced professionals in cooperation with CLYDE&CO starting at 17:15 in Zug (Grafenauweg 10, in room Helsinki).

The focus will be on a practical overview of the advantages of using the English courts or arbitration as a dispute resolution mechanism in commodities contracts.

This presentation will look at the pros and cons of each, including in terms of cost, time, funding opportunities and enforcement when dealing with “difficult countries”. Take home our top tricks and tips to improve the prospects of a successful resolution and recovery in the event of a dispute.


  • John Whittaker, Partner, Clyde & Co’s Trade & Energy Team: Acting for some of the world’s largest commodity and natural resources companies, John specialises in trading disputes, international economic sanctions and advisory work in relation to a wide range of international trading issues including anti-bribery, corruption, anti-money laundering and compliance. Having worked in this area for over 20 years, John regularly leads internal corporate investigations which arise where potential violations have occurred or where violations are alleged. He also acts for and against Governments in relation to contractual issues, investment disputes and sovereign immunity.


  • George Mingay, Legal Director, Clyde & Co’s Trade & Energy Team: George is an expert in the resolution of disputes within the commodities sector including those relating to metals and mining, oil and gas and soft commodities. George’s expertise extends to the resolution of high value disputes in the English courts, under international arbitration rules (incl. those of the ICC, UN-CITRAL and the LCIA) and under trade arbitration rules. He also advises clients in relation to regulatory and compliance issues. George has spent six months seconded to the in-house legal department of Shell International in London advising on upstream and downstream issues.


  • Emma Skakle, Senior Associate. Clyde & Co’s Trade & Energy Team: Emma specialises in dispute resolution, with a particular focus on international trade and shipping litigation. Emma has experience of advising on, resolving and litigating high value claims for clients operating across the energy and natural resources production and supply chain. Her expertise covers all aspects of cross-jurisdictional maritime issues incl. arrests, collisions and loading/discharge disputes. Emma regularly represents clients in London arbitrations (LMAA, ICC, LCIA, GAFTA, FOSFA) and the English.
