In order to limit global warming to 1.5°C, mankind needs to go car-bon neutral by 2050. This not only involves reducing carbon emissions, but also developing technologies, which enable the active removal of CO2 from the atmosphere on a large scale.
Climeworks is a spin-off company from ETH in Zurich that has devel-oped a process to capture CO2 directly from air. The air-captured CO2 can be used in the merchant market to carbonate drinks or to fertilize greenhouses. It can also be synthesized to renewable fuels and mate-rials, providing a carbon neutral alternative to fossil fuels. Climeworks also has an installation in Iceland, which captures CO2 from the air and turns it into stone, thus actively reducing the CO2 concentration in the atmosphere.
